Vision & mission

What I am working toward

Two statements I wrote for myself years ago, and still measure my work against.

Vision

“To be an innovative business leader who embodies the spirit of Canada, serving as a beacon of freedom, progress, and principled leadership in the modern world, while championing sustainable socio-economic development on a global scale.”

Mission

“To lead with integrity and innovation: in business, through philanthropy, and by educating and inspiring others to create lasting impact.”

What I do

Where strategy meets the field

I work at the intersection of corporate strategy, regulatory compliance and digital transformation, turning insight into action from the field to the boardroom.

01

Operating systems & business process

How work gets done, end to end: the processes, decision rights, measures and tools that let a growing company stay coherent.

02

New ventures & growth

Finding the next opportunity, testing whether it holds up, and building it from idea to launch, whether we build, partner or acquire.

03

Emissions & regulatory consulting

Helping producers and operators across Western Canada meet their emissions and environmental reporting obligations, while finding opportunity in them.

04

Digital transformation & data

ERP, business intelligence, data governance and AI, built alongside the people who will use them, then taught until they own them.

How I lead

Leadership means service, not ego.

I started teaching before I knew it was a skill. I have been coaching since I was seven, from the dojo to the court, the rink and the field, and the lessons have held up in every boardroom since: meet people where they are, make the path clear, and stay in their corner while they find their own way.

01

Coaching first

I teach, then I step back. Whether it is a new analyst, a graduate student or a whole team learning a new way of working, my job is to build confidence and capability until they no longer need me in the room.

02

Structure that frees people

Good structure is not red tape. Clear roles, honest measures and a steady rhythm give people the room to think, take ownership and do their best work.

03

Clarity and communication

I translate between the field, finance and the boardroom, so everyone hears the same story in their own language. Ambiguity costs more than hard news, so I say the hard thing early, plainly and kindly.

04

Empathy

Behind every process is a person with a history and a stake in the outcome. I listen for what is really going on, separate people from positions, and lead with as much care as rigour.

I measure my own success by whether people keep growing, and things keep working, after I step back.

Giving back

Mentorship and community

I have been fortunate to have many great role models and mentors. Whenever the opportunity arises, I try to do for others what so many have done, and continue to do, for me.

Colour of life

Strings, stories and the occasional long flight

When I am not working, I am usually on the ice playing hockey, playing or collecting guitars, making music from classical piano to blues, rock and Broadway, cooking my way through the world's cuisines, reading or writing poetry, or travelling to cities that fuel my love of art, fashion and fine dining, especially Tokyo and New York.
